Wearisome financial times for Morrison Ruritan are a little less so thanks to a generous donation.
“We really appreciate Newell making this donation during these financial times,” said Sue Anderson, a member of Morrison Ruritan’s Social Concern Board. “We were unable to have the fair last year and had no way of bringing any money in for scholarships or any other support that we usually give the community. Without this support from Newell, we would not be able to do what we normally do. We really appreciate them supporting Morrison Ruritan.”
Newell Brands Community Fund is an employee-funded charitable entity that provides monetary grants to qualified nonprofit organizations in the communities where employees live, work and care for their families.
Newell matches employee donations dollar for dollar, meaning $5,000 of the donation to Morrison Ruritan came solely from employees’ pockets.
“Our employees really enjoy supporting local nonprofits and giving back to their community,” said Newell’s HR manager Sheri Denning. “In the past 12 years we’ve donated somewhere around $500,000. Employees can donate $1 a week, up to 1% of their pay per week and we even have a couple employees who donate 2% of their pay per week.”
Newell’s Community Fund provides quarterly donations to nonprofit organizations that apply, meet the guidelines and are approved by a committee comprised of employees.
Guidelines required for consideration: nonprofits must provide programs to at-risk women, families and/or youth, and offer food programs.
