Another field is being renovated at Pistole Park.
The city Parks and Recreation Committee met to consider the purchase of sod for field No. 9 at a cost of $22,000.
“I assume it will cover the entire field plus an additional area outside of that,” said Vice Mayor Ben Newman.
“Yes,” said Parks and Recreation director Scott McCord. “Field 9, which used to be the main field, we’ve already started clearing with help from the Water Department. They will be grading. Irrigation will go in. This sod will cover the field. It will be like field No. 1.”
The first field was complete in 2014 at a cost of $22,695.
In 2013, Warren County Youth Soccer Association requested the city to make upgrades to the existing fields, bathrooms, concession stand and parking areas. In order to renovate without negatively affecting the soccer program, officials decided to make improvements over time.
“Is that field already irrigated,” said Newman.
McCord replied, “New lines will go down and a new system put in. That cost will be under $5,000. We’ll probably get field 9 done for less than $30,000.”
“That’s good,” said Newman.
Committee members unanimously approved the request for sod. The measure will be sent to the full Board of Mayor and Aldermen for its consideration.
