Future General Sessions Judge Ryan J. Moore wants upgrades for his courthouse office, but it is not in the county budget.
At the county Building and Grounds Committee meeting Tuesday night, County Executive Jimmy Haley said Moore mentioned wanting additional upgrades to his office. The county held off adding new carpet to the office until Moore assumes his duties, but he is wanting to add plantation shutters, crown molding, glass panel doors, and other additions.
Moore could pay for the upgrades with his own money, but whatever he adds will become county property. “Judge Moore is wanting additional upgrades in that space,” said Haley. “It is not in our budget and we have not done that with any other office. I would probably need a motion from Building and Grounds, if Judge Moore is willing to pay for that out of his pocket to do those additional upgrades, that we allow him to do so, but with the condition that it becomes county property.”
Said Commissioner Carl E. Bouldin, “My opinion is if he wants to spend the money, it comes out of his pocket and then it stays there. It is county property once it’s done.”
The committee unanimously passed a motion to allow Moore to remodel the office at his own expense with the plans being approved by the county maintenance director and county executive and once he leaves the additions stay and remain county property.
