Main Street merchant Lively dies at 94

In the days when downtown McMinnville was filled with soda fountains and Main Street was the community magnet, Bill Lively was a friendly face behind the pharmacy counter at Lively-Ferguson Drug Store.A World War II veteran, a former city alderman, and a McMinnville firefighter back in the day when it was an all-volunteer unit, Lively had a life full of activity. He died Monday at age 94.“His store was open six days a week, a lot of times till 8 or 9 p.m. because those were the days when downtown was the only place to shop,” said longtime friend Joe Michael Woodside. “Lively-Ferguson Drug Store was a big part of this town.
