Five seniors composed the second graduating class of Covenant Academy as commencement ceremonies were held Friday night at the school.“My hope is that you will walk in the faith you have learned here and you were raised in,” said Dr. Dean Northcutt, one of the founders of the academy, in addressing the senior class. The 2017 graduates included Isaiah Blanton, Jeel Patel, Samuel Wright, salutatorian, Hannah Griffith and valedictorian, Taylor Madewell. They are only the second group of seniors to earn diplomas from the academy which increased its size by one grade until it reached its current size where it teaches K-12.Dr. Northcutt pointed out there were some tough times in starting the school and then expanding it, demanding many volunteer hours.“We acted on faith,” Northcutt said, noting there was also a lot of prayer that went into launching the school and then growing it to its present size from its humble beginnings in 2004.Earline Steakley said it was that pioneering vision that led to the second class graduating Friday night.“Dr. Northcutt had a vision and a plan that we would offer an education with excellence here,” she said. “That plan has been achieved as evidenced by these students."
