Liquor stores may provide beer loophole

McMinnville voters may have unwittingly provided a loophole for the city of McMinnville’s 300-foot distance restriction between churches, schools and establishments that sell beer. According to city attorney Tim Pirtle, if the state approves a retail package store license for a location, the city cannot deny that licensee a permit to sell beer based solely on location, even if it’s within 300 feet of a school or church.“If the state issues a retail package store license for a particular location, the city will have no option,” said Pirtle. “Liquor is governed by state law.
