Each class is working diligently after school this week to add last-minute touches to their homecoming floats. The Warren County High School homecoming parade is this Friday, Sept. 27, at 1:30 p.m.

Although float themes are still top secret as each class competes for first place, the Class of 2020 seniors teased their float, describing it as “fiery,” which is an element incorporated in previous floats.

In fact, the Class of 2020 has a history of winning. As sophomores, the class came in first with its “Star Wars” float that featured an X-wing fighter that shot fire from its engines.

This year, the seniors didn’t start construction until the middle of August. Still, they’re not worried about winning.

“We don’t have any competition,” said senior Chloe Pennington confidently. “This is child’s play for us.”

Agreed senior Brady Gross while spray painting some letters, “We are going to win because we have more people who actually show up to do it. Most classes barely even go. We’ve never been on the downside.”

A unique feature of the senior float is the large class sign made from wood and paper. Since their freshman year, they’ve used the red, white and blue “Class of 2020” sign with each senior’s signature on the back. They plan on saving it for high school reunions.

Parade lineup starts at 12:30 p.m. on West Colville Street. At 1:30 p.m., the parade begins at Tire Mart, runs the length of Main Street, turns right, and ends at the Farmers Market. For those interested in attending a pep rally, it takes place at WCHS before the parade.

On Friday night, the Pioneers will be taking on Siegel High School. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with the Homecoming King and Queen to be crowned at halftime.
