May is National Preservation Month, and Heritage Alliance will be holding its annual awards ceremony this Thursday, May 18, at 6 p.m. During the event, Ben Lomand Mountain will be added to the organization’s list of historic places and added to the organization’s list of endangered sites. Several other sites will also be added to those lists:• Historic places: Home of the late Dr. B.C. Smoot; Ben Lomand Mountain; old road bed of Nashville Pike/ Old Post Road (the yard of Pat and Wally Bigbee); railroad bridge in Rock Island; and Rebel Hill Battle site at the Pennebaker House on Towles Avenue.• Endangered: Ben Lomand Mountain; remaining brick public sidewalk on West Main in front of Keith Smartt’s home; BRC mill property in Depot Bottom; Bernard School’s gym; and City Grammar School, locally known as the Blue Building.Awards will also be given to individuals for their contributions in historic preservation. The names of the individuals and the awards they will receive has not been released.The Heritage Alliance ceremony will be held at the Smoot home, located at 413 Morrison Street, which is now the residence of Main Street McMinnville director Katie Kemezis.
Heritage Alliance to hold awards ceremony
