The threat of bad weather was not enough to stop over 100 car enthusiasts from showing up at the 12th annual Great BODIES! Car Show and Swap Meet on Saturday.
The event was from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Champion Chevrolet and GMC and was a fundraiser for Families in Crisis. According to event organizer Blaine Wilcher, there were over 120 entries. There were cars, trucks, motorcycles and even some unusual rides.
Wilcher says one of the most unusual rides was Dean Hyzer’s “Little Jester” which was a go cart with a jet engine. Hyzer built his ride in 2000. The engine, built in the '50s by Continental Aviation, pushes the cart up to 100 miles per hour in a fourth of a mile. Hyzer “lit the candle” at noon and pleased the crowd with a show of fire, smoke and power.
Many awards were given out. Steve Breedlove earned multiple awards for his seven entries including the “Top Gun” best of show award for his 1969 GTO Judge.
The event raised around $5,000 for Families in Crisis. Wilcher said, “We got hot, rained on and even had to shelter together in the showroom, but we all had a great time for a great cause.”
