FCE Clubs seek new members

The Warren County Family and Community Education (FCE) Clubs seek your participation in 2018 as we learn, serve and accomplish various activities. Our theme this upcoming year is “Knock on Wood.”  The goal is to learn about many varieties of trees and objects made from them while doing the work of Family and Community Education clubs. You are encouraged to join FCE as we "knock on wood" in education, fellowship, community service and member involvement.

As a member of FCE, you can expect to be educated about special projects, nutrition and wellness, environment, family life and family economics and global awareness. You will experience the fellowship of like-minded individuals. You can expect to participate in community service projects on the local and county level. Your membership may include contests, activities and other group meetings.

Warren County FCE clubs meet on a monthly basis at various locations throughout the county. Family and Community Education Clubs are open to all eligible persons regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, religion or veteran status. Clubs may meet in member’s homes, community centers, the county administrative building or other central locations.  The active clubs and meeting times are as follows: Bonner, first Tuesday at 10 a.m.; Hickory Creek, first Thursday 10 a.m.; Lucky Homemakers, second Tuesday at 10 a.m.; Lucky-Northside, fourth Thursday at 11 a.m.; Midway, first Wednesday, 10 a.m.; and Vinson’s Crossroads, first Wednesday at 10 a.m.

To find the club nearest you, please contact Warren County Extension at 473-8484 or contact Hilda Lytle via email at hlytle@utk.edu. Upcoming events and activities may also be listed on the UT TSU Extension Warren County website and/or Facebook page.

All local FCE clubs are a part of the county council which meets on a quarterly basis. The council consists of six presiding officers and local club presidents or representatives. The council offers service projects, contests and events (ex: Rescue Squad Toy Collection, Dairy Day Recipe Contest, Cultural Arts Contests, International Day, and Visitation Day), an achievement day, a county-wide planning day, and much more to club members. Members can be involved on the local, county, regional, state and national levels as desired.

Some of the service projects that FCE members are involved in include:  books for newborns, canned food drive, volunteer assistance at the Red Cross Bloodmobile, and supporting entities such as the Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, Fisher House, and the Child Advocacy Center. The council also provides an educational scholarship for a graduating senior annually. Membership also gives the individual opportunities for participation in a reading program, leader training activities, working at the fair, Gold Star status, and the chance to help your club become a Master Club.  The more you put into club membership, the more you will get out of it.

So come "knock on wood" with us and participate in the Warren County Family and Community Education clubs and council. Your membership is vital to our FCE clubs.
