Two Warren County residents have been indicted on child abuse and endangerment charges for allegedly harming a child under 2 years old.

Rickey Joe Brown Jr., 31, and Shanna Renee Madewell, 37, were indicted by the Warren County grand jury on charges of child abuse and child endangerment. 

They have both been booked and released on $7,500 bond at Warren County Jail.

“He’s the father and she’s the girlfriend and they were both caring for this child,” said District Attorney General Lisa Zavogiannis. “The indictments are for physical abuse of a child under the age of 2.”

According to the indictments, the abuse reportedly took place between June 1 and July 12 of 2020. The indictments claim the suspects did knowingly, other than by accidental means, treat the child in such a manner as to inflict injury.

The top charge of child abuse is a Class D felony.

On the charge of child endangerment, the indictment says the couple failed “to protect the child from abuse or neglect resulting in physical injury.”

Brown and Madewell were arraigned Wednesday in Circuit Court. 

Their next court appearance has been set for July 28.
