McMinnville’s Tourism Development Board will soon be without administrative assistance.

“We need to determine who’s going to set the agendas and things like that,” said Christy Ross, chair of the city’s Tourism Develop-ment Board.

Ross questioned procedure due to an announcement by Mandy Eller that she had accepted two part-time positions elsewhere and will no longer be offering her volunteer services to TDB. She will be working for WCTE-PBS as a grant writer and with Upper Cumberland Development District.

“They took note of our rebranding and tourism marketing projects in recent years,” said Eller, of UCDD. “Using federal COVID relief funds, they created a position for me to do similar work across the Upper Cumberland with the exception of Putnam and Warren counties.”

Warren County Chamber of Commerce had been overseeing the administration of TDB activities but stepped out of that role July 1 due to staffing issues. Prior to that decision, the Chamber decided not renew its contract with Eller.

“My contract with the Chamber ended at the end of May,” said Eller. “Though there were plans and discussions, no decisions were ever made. I have a family to support, so I had to seek employment elsewhere.”

For the last two months, she has been volunteering her services free of charge.

Eller said she hopes to complete her work with TDB on its public TV segment called “Behind the Scenes” with host Laurence Fishburne before severing her association with the board. Filming is currently scheduled for October.

A job description is being created to fill Tourism Development Board’s staff support needs.
