The resurrection of Jesus Christ took center stage Sunday at Park Theater during a special Community Easter Service coordinated by Christ Community Church.
An estimated 450 worshippers attended the Easter Sunday service that saw $7,045 raised from a collection plate offering that will all be donated to charity.
The collection plate money will be divided equally among five local recipients – McMinnville Special Games, Hamilton Street Activity Center, Helping Hands Soup Kitchen, Horsin’ Around, and The Hope Center.
“We wanted to have a community event where Warren County celebrates a risen Christ and we definitely raised the name of Christ high,” said Christ Community Church pastor Jeremy Kliewer.
Visitors filled the main floor at Park Theater with about 50 more people viewing the service from the balcony.
Regular worship attendance at Christ Community Church is normally in the 100 to 110 person range, Kliewer noted. He said two people were baptized in a horse trough set up outside the theater.
“We almost filled Park Theater and had a great service that brought a lot of folks in who don’t have a regular church,” said Kliewer. “This wasn’t about self-promotion for our church. I never even mentioned our church by name or invited people to attend. It was a complete community focus to have a community event and our entire church pitched in to make it happen.”
Christ Community Church has the Park Theater reserved on Easter Sunday for four more years.
