Dr Flora Tydings, chancellor of the Tennessee Board of Regents, holds the future of low-cost, non-polluting energy production in her hands at last Thursday’s weekly luncheon of The Rotary Club of McMinnville.  Electricity from the wafer-thin solar cell registers on the classroom demonstration device while Dr Melody Edmonds, president of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology, McMinnville, pumps up the power generation with an LED flashlight. Joining them at left is Dr Kaneal Alexander of Motlow State Community College, McMinnville, coordinator of the Governor’s Investment in Vocational Education (GIVE) grant program.  GIVE funds have enabled the expansion of course offerings in the dual enrollment programs at Warren County High School and in the state’s community colleges and TCATS.
Warren County students are earning college credits and industrial credentials before graduating high school.
