Drunk driver with 4-year-old in car narrowly avoids hitting state trooper

A drunk driver faces multiple charges after she nearly slammed into a state trooper with a 4-year-old child sleeping in the back of her car.The woman, April M. Stembridge, 39, is charged with DUI, felony reckless endangerment, and violation of the child restraint law. She will face hearing Oct. 20.Her charges come after she narrowly missed colliding with Highway Patrolman Gary Myers as he was traveling on Manchester Highway. The trooper noted Stembridge crossed the highway as she approached him, traveling in the opposite direction.“Her maroon SUV traveled across the four-lane highway into the westbound lane from the eastbound lane and almost collided with my patrol unit,” the trooper reported.The officer turned around and fell in behind the SUV and noted the driver was erratic.“I observed it traveling in the middle lane where it came to a stop,” Myers said, adding the driver seemed highly intoxicated when he tried to talk to her.
