A local couple has been charged for beating and choking an elderly man in front of his grandchildren following a ball game at Dottie West Field – with one of his assailants being his own stepdaughter.The suspects, David and Maranda Beard, were arrested after they fled the scene of the attack at McMinnville Civic Center. Mr. Beard has been charged with felony assault for choking the senior citizen, while Mrs. Beard is charged with assault for knocking him to the ground and beating him.The incident occurred after Mr. Beard and the victim, Herman Workman, exchanged words while they were watching a family member play ball at the Civic Center complex.“He (Beard) said he had been to prison and didn’t mind going back again,” Workman told officers of the comments made by the suspect to him. He noted Mr. Beard had to be restrained from stepping inside the fence to confront Workman, who was in the dugout.Words were replaced by violence as Workman was trying to place his grandchildren, ages 12 and 4, into his car to leave.
