The New Year’s baby has a future so bright, her mother had to wear shades.
Khaleesi Garcia was the first baby born in Warren County in 2019, entering the world at 7:24 a.m. on Jan. 1. The daughter of Ivan and Katelyn Garcia, she weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces and was 20 inches long.
The sunglasses came into play because the pain medication given to Katelyn during an extremely long delivery produced a splitting headache.
“I was in labor for 18 hours, 24 minutes,” said Katelyn. “The epidural gave me a really bad headache and there were bright lights right in my face so I had to wear sunglasses during the delivery.”
Khaleesi was born at Saint Thomas River Park Hospital where Katelyn is an employee. Dr. Dawnmarie Riley performed the delivery. Khaleesi is more than two weeks early with an expected due date of Jan. 16.
The name Khaleesi comes from “Game of Thrones.” Katelyn is a big fan of the TV show.
“I like the name and the character,” said Katelyn. “Aria was my second choice.”
Khaleesi is the second child for Katelyn and Ivan. She joins brother Liam, who is 3.
“This is our second and our last,” said Katelyn. “We have a boy and a girl so we’re stopping with one each.”
