Civic Center work prompts Christmas Parade change

The Pioneerettes are always a flashy part of McMinnville’s annual Christmas parade, set for Saturday, Dec. 7.

The 2019 McMinnville Christmas Parade is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7 and its normal staging area will not be available.

McMinnville Parks and Recreation program coordinator Kyle Clyde says ongoing construction at the Civic Center has prompted a change in how the procession will line up.

“We normally stage the Christmas parade in the front parking lot,” Clyde said. “With the Civic Center construction, we need to have an alternative plan.”

He petitioned McMinnville officials to close the street surrounding the Civic Center for the lineup, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“If we could close the street on the side of the road that’s closest to the Civic Center all the way around, we could stage them on the road,” said Clyde. “We would still have traffic open for all the people who have homes around the Civic Center. It would, essentially, be a one-way street.”

The route down Clark Boulevard and into downtown McMinnville will remain unchanged, said Clyde.

A one-way traffic pattern is used during Dr Pepper’s Fourth of July fireworks display.

“This is the logical thing to do, from our perspective,” said McMinnville Police Chief Bryan Denton. “I would agree with it.”

McMinnville’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved the request.
