Need something to get you in the Christmas spirit? There’s plenty of opportunities to see live, local performances this season. You don’t have to travel far because “The Day Before Christmas” is showing at Park Theater.

In this musical, DeKalb Performing Arts fills the stage with the magic of Christmas. With a 46-member cast of adults and kids, this story shows how the truth and true meaning of Christmas can melt even the coldest of hearts.

“This is our fourth show at the Park Theater and I’m really excited because this is the first cast made up of members from both McMinnville and Smithville,” said director and choreographer Josh Issac. “The talent is really amazing.”

So what’s “The Day Before Christmas” about?

In this heartfelt musical, Rosalee, a little girl, runs away from home and finds herself at the North Pole on Christmas Eve. She has a secret that even Santa doesn’t know, but when Christmas is threatened by Jack Frost, it forces the Elves, Reindeer, and Mrs. Claus to unite with Santa to stop Christmas from being frozen forever.

When asked about his favorite part of the performance, Issac described the scene when Jack Frost freezes Christmas.

“I don’t want to spoil anything, but there’s an emotional scene when Rosalee runs away from home and it’s one that everyone can relate to,” said Issac.

If you’re a fan of Christmas music, this musical is a must-see with over 30 of your favorite Christmas songs.
