A man has been charged with felony assault for allegedly choking his girlfriend while he was behind the wheel of a vehicle – the incident ending when he crashed his car.The suspect, Christopher Lee Cripps, 30, has been bound to the grand jury on the charge of aggravated domestic assault – third offense. He also faces counts of leaving the scene of an accident, driving while being a habitual traffic offender, and third-offense DUI. He is being held under $100,000 bond and has been warned not to go around the victim if he gets out of jail.According to the victim, the assault happened after they had been arguing for some time and decided to go driving around.“While driving down Smithville Road, the argument turned physical and he started punching her in the left side of the face,” said Sheriff’s Lt. Jason Walker, noting the victim was so scared she thought about jumping out of the moving vehicle. “She said she opened the door, thinking about jumping out of the car when she realized they were moving too fast.”The victim told lawmen Cripps pulled her back inside the moving vehicle by the hair of her head and continued punching her.
