Alderman Ryle Chastain has been reappointed vice mayor for the city of McMinnville.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen unanimously approved a recommendation by Mayor Ben Newman on Tuesday night to allow Chastain to continue in the position he’s held since September.
“He served as vice mayor for a short period of time, until the election,” said Newman. “I think he did a great job. He was accessible. His job allows him to be in town during business hours, for the most part. I think they were able to get in touch with him when I wasn’t able to sign checks or do other things.”
Members also approved an appointment by the mayor to place Aldermen Steve Harvey on the McMinnville Electric System board.
“Congratulations, Steve,” said Newman.
This will be Harvey’s first term on the MES power board, which oversees the activities at the utility.
While most appointments to the MES board are for four years, the city’s representative is a yearly appointment. Prior to Harvey, the city’s liaison was Chastain.
The mayor also appoints members to the McMinnville Housing Authority board. Newman reappointed Earl Barr to that position. His selection does not need confirmation by the city board.
