Boyd Christian School held commencement ceremonies Thursday evening at Central Church of Christ, graduating one of its largest classes in recent years.
A total of 16 seniors walked the aisle during graduation for the class of 2017 held before a capacity audience at the downtown church.
Class salutorian Rhiannon Hoover set the tone for her fellow classmates during the ceremony.
“You don’t need a certain number of friends,” Hoover said. “You just need number of friends you can be certain of and I’m certain I have a group of friends who will care about me no matter where I go in life.”
Hoover encouraged her classmates to have no fear when facing life, no matter what comes their way.
“Be bold, be courageous and be your best,” she said. “Make the best of the life God has given you. Put your best foot forward and always put God first.”
Valedictorian Erin Cantrell spoke about how the students at Boyd have been a family during their time together.
“You guys are my family, and although we may act like the Griswalds from ‘Christmas Vacation,’ it’s still family,” she joked, noting she will miss her time in school but is looking forward to what life holds for her. “Where ever life takes us, we are again going to be the new kids on the block.”
Cantrell urged her classmates to take the bull by the horns when they venture out on their own.
“Take every opportunity and make a ton of memories,” she said. “And most importantly, live your life to the fullest, serving God every day.”
