Human skeletal remains were found this past week in a remote area of Rock Island, leaving lawmen trying to figure out whose bones they are.
“We’ve sent the remains for analysis and hope to know something in a few weeks,” said District Attorney General Lisa Zavogiannis of the discovery that was made after authorities received a tip about the location of the remains.
She would not elaborate on the source of the information that led them to the resting place but did confirm the bones that were discovered appear to be the remains of a human.
“We will be sending the remains to a facility in Mississippi for positive identification,” she revealed, adding her office, along with the Sheriff’s Department and Rescue Squad members, unearthed the skeleton from the secluded location during an extended excavation operation.
Zavogiannis did not reveal if the bones are that of a missing person, cold criminal case, or working case, or if they are apparently male or female.
“As soon as we find out something for sure as far as positive identification, we will be able to say something more definite,” Zavogiannis said. “We want to wait until we have the facts and know something for sure.”
