The Great Give Back Blood Drive raised $680 for Relay for Life.
Relay for Life chair Carla Savage was presented with the check on Wednesday by McMinnville Electric System general manager and CEO Rodney Boyd.
At the drive, Blood Assurance donated $10 for everyone who donated to the cause. That means 68 people donated, and Relay for Life received the $680 donation. Blood Assurance is the only provider of blood to Ascension Saint Thomas River Park.
MES manager of marketing and communications Debbie Sain helped organize the blood drive held in December. She said, “It’s a win-win for both nonprofits.”
Savage received the check on behalf of Relay for Life at MES in the presence of the Blood Assurance Advisory Board via Zoom. Sain said it was very exciting to also have a Bridgestone representative present.
Savage said, “This is such a wonderful partnership. Relay has suffered greatly because of the pandemic.”
She said all Relay for Life events were canceled in 2020. “People are still dying of cancer, as well as COVID. We don’t need cancer research to stop.”
Relay for Life has lost a lot in the past year, but with Blood Assurance and MES making this contribution it’s a sign things are improving.
Savage said Relay for Life is scheduled to return this year on June 5, the first weekend in June.
