Blood Assurance continues to conduct blood drives in an effort to maintain a stable supply.
Blood drives are a way to collect lifesaving blood for patients who need it. According to Blood Assurance Nashville mobile team leader Salena Mave, blood drives are needed now more than ever.
“It’s really important to give blood because there are a lot of patients out there who need it and ever since the pandemic has started a lot of people don’t prioritize giving blood. So we have even more of a need now than we did before,” said Mave.
COVID-19 put donating blood low on the list of priorities for many people.
“We used to have a lot of faithful donors and ever since the pandemic started, it’s not really a priority for anybody until it hits home for somebody like if they have a family member or a loved one who needs it,” said Mave. “Until it’s personal, nobody really values it as much as they used to. It’s really important all the more now since there are not as many donations.”
The next Blood Assurance blood drive is set for this Wednesday, Oct. 13, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Ascension Saint Thomas River Park Hospital.
