The historic Black House doors will be open to the public Dec. 3-4 for a Christmas Open House. The interior rooms have been beautifully decked out in the holiday finery by area businesses and individuals.
Black House executive director Jeanette Lowrey encourages everyone to celebrate the holiday at the home, located at 301 West Main.
“This is the day for the McMinnville Christmas Parade, with lots of folks lining the streets, making it the perfect time to stop by and tour the house,” said Lowery.
Holiday dulcimer music will be presented in the music room by local musician Marty Waldron, and will also be joined by other artists. Refreshments of cookies and cider will be available for guests, as well as the opportunity to win several door prizes.
“This year we are very pleased to welcome business sponsors, Lowe’s, Walmart and Fred’s to our family,” said Lowery. “They have decorated rooms, made donations and made a grant to the endeavor, and we appreciate them greatly.”
In addition to decorations provided by the businesses, individuals Reba Reynolds, John and Kim Tubb and Shirley Buckner will be working on holiday displays in several rooms of the home. Lowery says she is also very proud of the board of directors and the hard work they put in each presentation.
The home was deeded to the Eagle Club in 1984, with Lowery supervising its restoration and maintenance since that time. The Black House derived its name from previous owner Dr. Thomas Black, and is the oldest remaining residence in McMinnville.
Tours will be available form 2 – 8 p.m. on Dec. 3; and 1 – 5 p.m. on Dec. 4. Admission is $5 per person, with children 4 and under admitted free.
