The Silver Beaver Award has been presented to local resident George Beaver. He has spent 31 years in the organization. Pictured is George with girlfriend Judy Thomas at the ceremony.

Warren County resident George Beaver Jr. has been presented the Silver Beaver Award.

“The Silver Beaver is the highest award at the Boy Scouts council level,” said George. “It is really such an awesome honor. It is not an award you can seek and you are not aware when you are being considered. When I got the call telling me that I’d been selected, I was truly humbled and at a loss for words. You can ask anyone that knows me, I’m seldom at a loss for words.”

George, together with Judy, have seven children between them: Suzanna, Chelsea, Lindsay, Ginny, Katy, and Tessa.

“I am truly proud of George and his lifestyle approach to helping others,” said Judy.

The Silver Beaver was introduced by the Boy Scouts of American in 1931 and is a council-level distinguished service award. Recipients are registered scouters who have made an impact on youth through service.

George was in scouts as a youth for 10 years and as an adult for 21 years.

He has served as a Cubmaster, Pack Committee chair, and Charter Organization rep for the district level. He has served as advancement chairman on the Camping Committee, Training Committee, and as unit commander and trainer for various events. He has been on the Wood Badge staff and served as National Youth Leadership Training Scoutmaster. He is an Order of the Arrow member.

George is a member of First United Methodist Church where he has served on the Church Council and as Scouting Ministry chair. He was a member of the McMinnville Jaycees and has been a soccer coach.

He is an Eagle Scout with three Palms and served as Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. He received the God and Country Award as a youth, and the District Award of Merit as an adult.

One of his fellow scouters said one thing that makes George stand out is his dedication to boys without a father in the home.
