Banana Day has arrived!
Banana Day - lifeguard with flash.jpg
Gilley Pool lifeguard Rylee Ryan is bananas about water safety. The Southern Standard is going bananas this Friday from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. with free banana splits and discount subscriptions.

In today’s world of misinformation, getting reliable news at an affordable price is reason to go bananas.

Free banana splits don’t hurt either.

Both will be available this Friday, June 18, as the Southern Standard celebrates customer appreciation day from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at our office at 105 College Street.

Everyone is welcome to come enjoy a free banana split and register for door prizes that include a grill valued at $549, a cooler, an ice cream maker, and free subscriptions to the newspaper.

Discount subscription prices will be available all day long. For customers who want to save big, a one-year subscription to the newspaper will be discounted 25% to just $75 for an entire year.

The cost of newsprint is soaring and other operating costs continue to rise, but the Standard is dedicated to keeping our subscription prices as low as possible.

For those who want to download our Standard app, or go with an online-only subscription, you can get all the news delivered to your phone, tablet or computer for just $1.34 a week. That’s about the price of a candy bar.

For more information, call the Standard office at 473-2191 or stop by during our popular customer appreciation day this Friday.
