A man who fled deputies and then tried to hide his vehicle under a tarp to avoid apprehension has been bound to the grand jury on multiple charges.
The man, Donald Lee Shields Jr., 24, has been bound to the grand jury by General Sessions Judge Bill Locke on charges of theft, vandalism and evading arrest.
He was arrested after lawmen located a motorcycle Shields allegedly stole. While they were investigating the stolen motorcycle, Shields reportedly arrived on the scene.
“I was standing at the end of the driveway when I saw him driving toward me in a pickup truck,” recalled deputy Brystol Davis, noting he tried to flag down Shields, but the suspect was having none of it. “He looked straight at me and suddenly drove around, increased his speed, and drove away.”
Officers began searching for the suspect’s vehicle after he sped out of sight. More than two hours later, officers finally found him. “He had covered up the pickup truck with a tarp in an attempt to hide it,” the deputy said.
Shields reportedly confessed to knowing the motorcycle he had possession of was stolen. It was also determined Shields was out on a $250,000 bond for seven prior felonies he was facing.
