October’s first baby at Saint Thomas River Park received a whole lot of books.
The books were donated to the newborn by Alpha lota, a local chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK), a teacher sorority that strives to build, develop, and strengthen the morals and principals of democracy and the high standards of education.
“We donate a book basket to River Park Hospital for the first baby born in October to celebrate ADK month and to encourage the love of reading for the new little one,” said ADK president Whitney Dyer. “We are a group of female teachers who have a heart for serving our community and children.”
ADK is an international honor society for women educators founded in 1947 in Kansas City, Mo.
Alpha lota, the Warren County Chapter, was organized in 1965. The current local chapter is actively involved in many altruistic endeavors which include: giving a scholarship each year to a senior girl who will be pursuing a career in education, helping the FUEL program at WCHS, sponsoring a family at Christmas, starting a Little Free Library, and providing the basket of books donation.
In donating the basket, ADK hopes to instill the love of reading in the child’s life as well as her family.
