Morrison Ruritan is currently selling its fourth in a series of Christmas ornaments. This year features the old Morrison Depot.
The railroad that passed through the town of Morrison was built prior to the Civil War. Historical records indicate there was a Civil War battle at the trestle that stands on the old Remus Bryan farm, where 13 Confederate soldiers remain interred.
The old Morrison Depot was built in 1910 by the Nashville, Chattanooga, St. Louis Railway Co. Its design was Carpenter Gothic Revival, essentially identical to numerous depots along the line. Three different companies built and serviced the line starting in Tullahoma and ending in Sparta, with stops all along the system. The old depot was part of a thriving small town for almost 60 years, with an adjoining stockyard for much of its useful life.
The old depot was demolished around 1968.
Morrison Depot’s history is included with the ornament, making it a must have for any history buff. The first three ornaments in the series were Morrison’s library, school and mill.
Ornaments can be purchased for $12 at the Warren County Trustee’s office, Morrison Hardware, Morrison Library, Morrison School and Morrison Barbershop. Morrison calendars are $5 and are also available.
