Late rush puts parade entries at 60

A spike in parade entries received at the last minute pushed the number to an acceptable level for the 2011 Christmas Parade in downtown McMinnville, city officials say.
“We have 60 entries,” said McMinnville Public Works assistant director Brad Hennessee. “The number does not include JROTC, band, or vehicles such as police or fire engines and those needed for the mayor or grand marshals. There were 60 paid entries.”
The theme for this year’s parade is “It’s A Dr. Seuss Christmas.” Entries must keep with the theme by decorating their entry depicting any one of the Dr. Seuss books.
Word has it that Horton from “Horton Hears A Who” will be making an appearance this year.
Among the most lovable of all Dr. Seuss creations, Horton the Elephant represents kindness, trustworthiness, and perseverance. After Horton hears a cry for help from a speck of dust, he tries to protect the microscopic creatures who live on it from the ridicule and trickery of other animals.
Parade grand marshals are also falling into place. Currently on the list of characters are The Grinch and Cindy Lou Who from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and Thing 1 and Thing 2 from “The Cat in the Hat.”
The parade is Dec. 3 and begins at 2:30 p.m. Lineup is at McMinnville Civic Center beginning at noon. The route will travel the length of Main Street and end at the downtown water tower. Entries are encouraged to include Christmas music.
