A man who allegedly chased his ex-girlfriend wielding knives in both hands has been bound to the grand jury on felony assault charges.
The defendant, Don Edward Baker, 28, waived his right to a preliminary hearing before General Sessions Judge Larry Ross and was bound to the grand jury on charges of aggravated assault, domestic assault, vandalism, theft and aggravated burglary.
According to arrest warrants against Baker taken by sheriff’s deputy Jason Richardson, the incident happened while the father of the victim’s children was visiting her home. The children had just gone to town when the suspect allegedly burst in without warning.
“All of a sudden the door flew open and in came Don Baker with a knife in each hand,” Richardson said he learned during his investigation. “He chased both victims into the back bedroom screaming he was going to kill them.”
Richardson said the male victim was able to get out of the room, but Baker struck him in the mouth with something as he rounded the trailer.
Warrants also maintain Baker struck his ex-girlfriend several times in the front yard.
“The neighbors called 911 while Mr. Baker drug the female victim out into the yard and struck her in the head with his fist,” Richardson swore in the warrant against Baker, noting the suspect had taken steps to prevent them from fleeing for their lives. “He had taken both cellphones and stabbed a tire on her car causing a flat.”
Baker fled the scene in his truck following the incident but was later taken into custody.
