After suffering through two days of storms, the weather forecast calls for sunny skies and comfortable temperatures this weekend.
It’s the perfect time to go fly a kite.
The Standard’s 14th annual Kite Day celebration will take place this Saturday, April 30, at 10 a.m. in the large field behind Hickory Creek Elementary. The event is co-sponsored by Dr Pepper Bottling.
Kite Day is a great family outing. Anyone can fly their kite, and three age divisions have been set for competition. The divisions are:
• 0-4
• 5-7
• 8-12
Awards will be presented in each division for Best Homemade Kite, Most Unusual Kite and Prettiest Store-Bought Kite. Mini Standard’s Bonnie Bear will be on hand, meeting with guests and offering kite-flying tips.
To receive a free, specially designed shirt commemorating Kite Day, youngsters 12 years of age and under must attend the event. Shirts in assorted sizes will be available to the first 50 guests registering at Kite Day.
In case of rain, Kite Day will be rescheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m.
