Kids Funfest set for Saturday

The second annual Kids Funfest and Safety Day will be held Saturday, April 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at McMinnville Civic Center.Free is the key word as there will be no cost for admission and everything offered to children during the day will be free, free, free!“We will have five nice interactive inflatables and all kinds of safety equipment for the children to enjoy,” said organizer Martha Phillips of the Children’s Advocacy Center.Among the safety equipment sure to delight the children will be a helicopter (weather permitting), ambulance from Warren County Ambulance Service, a firetruck from McMinnville Fire Department, a roll-over simulator from Tennessee Highway Patrol, various equipment from the National Guard, a Meth Task Force trailer, and a Tennessee wildlife trailer.On hand and providing picture opportunities with the children will be Tennessee Highway Patrol’s Ollie Otter, Warren County High School’s Pioneer Jake, McMinnville Civic Center’s Gilley the Frog, McMinnville Fire Department’s Fire Pup, and the Mini Standard’s own Bonnie Bear.“There will also be carnival games, face painting, live music and karaoke with Kelly Walker from Star 107,” said Phillips. “There will be free food for the first 300 children and free T-shirts to the first 100 children. All are first come, first served.”The event is sponsored by the city of McMinnville, Children’s Advocacy Center, Families in Crisis, Hamilton Street Activity Center and Kids of the Community.Making the event free are sponsors Ascend Federal Credit Union, Jarden Consumer Solutions, Middle Tennessee Dr Pepper, Mrs. Harry Ward Camp, Todd A. Herzog, Norment A. Barnes Insurance Agency, Walmart, Hoover and Sons Insurance, and Spacewalk of Murfreesboro.Activities will be in the back parking lot of the Civic Center.
