Junior Auxiliary of McMinnville will be holding its annual gala this Saturday, April 25, from 6-9 p.m. This year’s event has been named “Garden & Gun Jubilee” and will take place at Magness Library.
According to Junior Auxiliary member Kate Medley, the gala has been renamed.
“We have renamed it the Garden & Gun Jubilee after the popular Southern magazine Garden & Gun,” Medley said. “Garden & Gun is like Southern Living but with a male twist. It aims to cater to an adventure-bound, art-loving, skeet-shooting lifestyle. The creator of the magazine said it was a Southern metaphor for land, people, lifestyle and heritage of the South.”
The library event will feature a silent auction that showcases what JA believes exemplifies the Garden & Gun mentality in our area, with six themed baskets that contain items for hunting, grilling, fishing, camping, landscaping and herbs, says Medley.
Donations for the baskets were made by local businesses and will contain a day pass from Viola Valley Shooting range, a cooler from Big Lots, fishing supplies from Little Joe’s Outdoor Supplies, camping pass and kayak float for two from Smooth Rapids, two dogwood trees from Tim Gallagher, and burning bushes from David Hillis.
In addition, Rhonda Galligan from the Nashville Herbal Society is donating seeds to grow an herb garden and she is donating her time to come to the highest bidder’s house and plant the herb garden.
Offering the entertainment will be The Lund McVey Group. The band is a Christian Jazz/ Fusion band from Nashville that is led by Matt Lund. Featuring eclectic and accessible original compositions, The Lund McVey Group presents memorable concerts with infectious melodies and plenty of intense playing.
Along with the name change, the event has been moved to Magness Library.
“JA is very excited about our location this year,” said Medley. “We feel that utilizing what downtown has to offer is huge for our club and our community. Brad at the library has been wonderful to work with and we want the citizens of McMinnville to be reminded that the library is a wonderful event space that is reasonable to rent, conveniently located and has gorgeous architecture.”
The gala is a major fundraiser for Junior Auxiliary so members can give back to the community through events such as Coats of the Community, Christmas in the Park, and the Hopping into Health Easter Egg Hunt, among other events.
Tickets are $60 per person. Included in the ticket price will be heavy hors d’oeuvres and drinks for toasting.
