Housing authority gets $2M in energy upgrades

McMinnville Housing Authority residents are on their way to feeling warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.Thanks to a $947,000 federal grant, McMinnville Housing Authority has recently finished a project to add extra insulation and other energy-efficiency upgrades to 78 of its units in the West Riverside community. The total project cost was $2.08 million, with McMinnville Housing Authority contributing the rest from its capital fund program.“This is one of the oldest public housing developments in McMinnville and was in dire need of energy-related improvements and general modernization,” said McMinnville Housing Authority executive director Patricia Basham of the units built in 1963. “It’s calculated these improvements will reduce energy consumption in these apartments by more than 25 percent.
