Hazardous waste collection

Warren County residents who have accumulated unwanted hazardous materials around their homes should mark their calendar to take advantage of Tennessee’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event to be held Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Three Star Mall located at 1410 Sparta Road in McMinnville.Household hazardous waste is defined as corrosive, flammable, toxic or reactive materials used in your home, personal vehicles or garden that are no longer wanted or have become unusable. These materials should be properly disposed of and not included with regular garbage.The state will have a hazardous waste mobile collection site set up in the mall parking lot which will allow local homeowners to safely and legally dispose of all these products and chemicals.Best of all, the environmentally conscious disposal of these materials will cost consumers nothing. The service is provided by the state free of charge.Some of the household items that will be accepted include cleaning fluids and disinfectants, drain openers, oven cleaners, paint thinner, paint strippers and removers, adhesives, unused medications, mercury thermostats and thermometers, and fluorescent light bulbs.
