Grandy's has closed, won't reopen

Grandy's of McMinnville

The old Bojangles is now the old Grandy’s.

After six months in business, Grandy’s has closed its doors in McMinnville and shut down permanently. Employees were notified Monday when they reported to work that the restaurant was closed and would not be reopening.

“We just found out today,” said Noah Wilson, the local Grandy’s general manager, on Monday. “Our sales were low so we thought it might be coming, but we didn’t have any idea it would be today. We hate to leave McMinnville because we had high expectations for this store and we were hoping things would turn out better.”

Wilson pointed out that Grandy’s had great sales opening week, but had to shut down almost immediately due to COVID-19. The restaurant was closed for about a week.

“We closed for a deep cleaning and we never really regained our momentum after that,” said Wilson.

Trident Holdings purchased the old Bojangles property for $1.25 million in July 2020 and spent several months renovating the building. Grandy’s opened on Monday, Dec. 7, 2020. At the time it opened, the restaurant had 45 employees.

The few remaining workers on hand Monday afternoon were loading up food to take to the Grandy’s location in Murfreesboro. Most of the employees are out of a job, although Wilson said he was fortunate to be offered a position at one of the 39 Captain D’s restaurants owned by Trident Holdings.

Bojangles opened in that building on Dec. 1, 2015 and lasted almost three years before closing.
