The county’s Education Committee voted Monday to present a property tax rate of $1.99, the current rate, to the full Warren County Commission for approval at its next meeting Aug. 22. The move is part of a unique ploy to try and break the school system budget impasse. The county has already sent the school budget back to the School Board for cuts twice. The county says it would have to enact a 6-cent property tax increase to generate the 5.7 cents needed to balance the school budget if no cuts are made. But cutting the budget has been something the school system has so far been unwilling to do.
