It wasn’t a leisurely fall break trip to the Grand Canyon for the Cripps family. They decided to hike to the bottom of the canyon and back to the top in one day – a grueling 23.8-mile trek that took 12 hours.“It would be like walking from here to Manchester with the Smoky Mountains in between,” said Jason Cripps, who made the hike with his wife, Renee, and their two children, Alex and Allison. “It was 5:30 a.m. and 27 degrees when we started and it was nearly dark when we finally climbed out. It was 14.2 miles to the bottom and 9.6 miles back up.”The Grand Canyon, located in northern Arizona, is known as one of the greatest natural wonders of the world.
