A man who broke into a home and was taking a bath when the family returned has been charged with aggravated criminal trespass.
Jeremy K. Johnson, 39, was arrested last Friday night, June 3, for the incident which occurred on Old Morrison Road.
Johnson entered a guilty plea Thursday before General Sessions Judge Bill Locke and was sentenced to eight days in jail.
According to McMinnville Police reports, Johnson was completely unknown to Dakota Merriman and his family when he decided to unlawfully enter their home last week. The family returned home around 11 p.m. to find him in the bathtub.
“They had a camera in the kitchen and it captured a lot of what he did when he was inside the home,” said McMinnville Police detective Tony Jenkins. “He petted the dog, ate something that was there cooking in a crock pot, and even drank from the milk jug before putting it back in the refrigerator. When the family came home, Mr. Johnson was inside taking a bath and Dakota Merriman was able to subdue him and get him outside.”
Intoxication may have been to blame.
“He was drunk,” said detective Jenkins. “He didn’t know Mr. Merriman and his family and he had never been in their home before.”
Johnson was pleasant and cooperative with officers when they arrived, Jenkins said.
