Failure to obtain burn permit could cost you $261

It’s once again fire season in Tennessee and if you burn outdoors without a permit it can really hit your wallet.In Warren County, the cost for burning without a permit, including court costs, is $261.50. Burning permits are required regardless of whether it has just rained, sleeted or snowed.Permits are free and are required between now and May 16.The Division of Forestry is reminding Warren County landowners if they intend to do any outdoor burning, it’s required by state law to obtain a burning permit.The permits issued by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Division of Forestry are for the sole purpose of burning untreated wood waste or woody vegetation grown on-site such as branches, leaves and brush.Permits for burning areas larger than 8 feet by 8 feet must be secured by telephone. Permits for debris piles 8 feet by 8 feet and smaller can be secured either online at www.burnsafetn.org, or by telephone.
