Saying he watched as his friend was gunned down in cold blood in front of their apartment in July, a witness to the Cotten Apartments slaying identified Gregorio Arenas as the gunman who murdered his roommate.“I told him not to move, not to go outside,” testified Rafael Medellin, recalling the warning he gave to Albertano Guerro “Tonto” Trejo, 29, after he was called outside by Arenas. “I saw him pistol whip Tonto and then shoot him.”Trejo died at the scene from a single gunshot wound to the chest allegedly fired by Arenas who was bound to the grand jury Tuesday on criminal homicide charges following a preliminary hearing before General Sessions Judge Bill Locke.Medellin testified he and the victim, who were among four people who lived in the small apartment, had been watching wrestling on TV when Arenas walked in with a 9 mm pistol on his hip, challenging them to come outside. Medellin said Tonto, as he called him, and Arenas had past problems over a woman.“I told him to stay close,” Medellin testified.
