Were McMinnville officials protecting city administrator David Rutherford from being terminated by a new Board of Mayor and Aldermen when they renewed his contract Tuesday night?Evaluations recently done of his job performance point to yes and a board in disagreement.Evaluations are done annually to review the performance of the city administrator. This year’s evaluations were complete weeks prior to the board unanimously voting to renew Rutherford’s contract on Tuesday. The new contract gives Rutherford a $17,180 raise, increases his severance package, and requires a super majority of five votes to terminate him.In Alderman Billy Wood’s evaluation, he voiced a desire to protect Rutherford from termination.“We must move quickly to protect David contractually,” Wood wrote.
