Members of the School Board recognized two people as employees of the year during Thursday night’s meeting.
Kevin Dunlap was named certified employee of the year. Dunlap is an eighth grade social studies teacher at Warren County Middle School.
Gerald Tidwell, principal of WCMS, wrote a letter to the board recommending Dunlap saying, “I have been most impressed with Mr. Dunlap as he demonstrates a passion for teaching his subject matter that is second to none. He teaches in such a way that students thoroughly enjoy learning about history. It is almost like he is able to bring past events to life with his enthusiasm and gift for teaching.”
Tidwell went on to say Dunlap cares deeply about the students he works with. “It is common for me to walk by his room and hear Mr. Dunlap teaching a life lesson to students that will benefit them for a lifetime. Mr. Dunlap goes above and beyond what is expected of him, and our students benefit tremendously because of his efforts,” wrote Tidwell.
Dunlap is co-sponsor of the WCMS Interact Club and he works the score clock at all WCMS basketball and football games.
Dunlap is married to Laura and is the father of two sons, Jackson and Brooks. He serves as a deacon at Central Church of Christ where he also teaches Bible classes.
Rusty Miller was named classified employee of the year. Miller has been a teacher’s assistant at Eastside Elementary School for 18 years.
Miller’s co-workers jokingly call her the “Sheriff of Eastside School.” Carol Prater, principal at Eastside, wrote a letter saying Miller “is a great mentor and sets a good example for everyone to follow. We are blessed to have such a wonderful, giving and hard worker at Eastside Elementary. Whatever needs to be done, she is there 100 percent.”
Miller helps organize fundraisers for the girls basketball team for uniforms and sports equipment.
Miller has been married to her husband, Monti, for 25 years. She has a daughter and son-in-law, Monica and Chad Reed and a son, Trey Miller. She also has one granddaughter, Emme Reed.
