Dozens honored for preservation efforts

Heritage Alliance, Warren County’s “historic umbrella” organization, held its 2011 annual meeting and historic preservation awards ceremony at the Galligan and Newman law office on Main Street.
Attendees toured the restored law offices before convening on the front lawn for the annual meeting. Awards were presented to individuals, businesses, organizations and historic properties.  
Individuals receiving awards:
• Pat Bigbee — for creation of the Bicentennial Heritage Garden on the greenway
• James A. Dillon Jr. — in recognition of a lifetime of devotion to the preservation and documentation of local history
• Mike and Rhonda Galligan — for community philanthropy and sponsorship of heritage events
• Steve Grove — Sedberry Hospitality Award for fostering southern ideals and standards of good taste through planning and catering events at Magness Library
• Billy Holland — for his 2011 Eagle Scout project
• H.C. Hudson — for promoting heritage craftsmanship at Bridgestone’s Industrial Career Development Center
• Teddy Jones — for promotion of heritage tourism through Cumberland Caverns bicentennial events
• Kenneth King — for promotion of heritage tourism through video journalism at BLTV
• Brenda Lochaby — for demonstrating  community spirit through organization of the USO Show
• Jason McKay — for sponsorship of heritage events — the World War II Veterans’ Salute
• Doug Milner — for community philanthropy and heritage event sponsorship
• John Patterson — for sponsorship of heritage events — the USO Show at Warren County Airport
• Mary Robbins for Heritage Event Planning and Sponsorship at Magness Library
• Carolyn Taylor — for organization of heritage events — the USO Show and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”
• Jonathan Womack — for promotion of heritage tourism through video journalism at BLTV

• Middle School Interact Club — for demonstrating community spirit through participation in heritage events
• Sons of Confederate Veterans — General Benjamin J. Hill Chapter — for participation in local history events
• United Daughters of the Confederacy — Colonel John H. Savage Chapter — for participation in local history events

Heritage Alliance is a 501(c)3 organization that serves as the chief preservation agent for Warren County. For more than three decades, Heritage Alliance volunteers have fostered preservation efforts in this area. The organization’s goal is to “Preserve the Best of the Past for the Future.” Among its many projects is the operation of the Warren County Heritage Center and Museum at 118 W. Main Street in downtown McMinnville.
The Heritage Center is open Tuesday and Thursday, 2-4 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.; and Sunday, 2-6 p.m. It’s also open by appointment for special group tours and events.
