One step forward and two steps back continues to be the trend for the Lady Pioneers. After steadying itself with a shutout win over DeKalb County Wednesday, Warren County fell back-to-back nights to end the week, dropping a 7-6 heartbreaker at Rockvale Thursday before losing 7-1 to Boyd Buchanan Friday.
The loss to the Rockets was a bitter pill to swallow as the Lady Pioneers rallied from a 6-0 hole in the third to tie the game in the sixth, only to see Rockvale rip a game-winning single in the seventh.
Errors, once an issue for WCHS, played a big part in Thursday's comeback. Rockvale committed eight miscues, including three in the sixth leading to three runs as the Lady Pioneers tied the game.
Senior Kora Forbes started the rally, ripping an RBI double in the fourth to give the team life. Two more runs followed in the fifth, coming from RBI singles from Ceilee Gudat and Kyiara Sharpe.
The Lady Pioneers looked poised to take the lead in the seventh when Sharpe and Forbes started the inning with singles, but Rockvale recovered and escaped unscathed. In the bottom of the frame, a lead-off single - followed by Warren County's lone error - put the winning run in scoring position and a slap to center end the game in heartbreak for the visitors.
On Friday, Lola Wells' solo homer was the team's lone offense as they fell to 7-15 overall with the loss to the Buccaneers.
