GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — An East Tennessee physician and his wife have been sentenced for using unapproved foreign drugs at their cancer clinic.

Dr. Anindya Sen was sentenced to three years of probation and fined $100,000. Patricia Sen, who was the clinic manager, was sentenced to four years of probation and fined $200,000.

According to the U.S. attorney's office for the Eastern District of Tennessee, the Greeneville couple purchased more than $3 million in misbranded and unapproved chemotherapy and other medications between 2009 and 2012. Evidence showed the Sens received approximately $1.3 million in additional profit by purchasing unapproved drugs for their East Tennessee Cancer and Blood Center.

Anindya Sen also must submit his practice for inspection. Patricia Sen is prohibited from working in any medical practice without the permission of her probation officer.
