SPRING HILL, Tenn. (AP) — A sheriff's deputy in Middle Tennessee has died in a crash while helping another officer in pursuit of a suspect who fled.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol told media that the crash was reported early Tuesday in Spring Hill. Media report 42-year-old Deputy Darrell Perritt died after losing control of his vehicle and hitting a tree.
Police say he crashed while helping another officer pursue a suspected drunken driver who fled from another officer. The suspect also crashed and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Maury County Sheriff Bucky Rowland says chaplains are counseling Perritt's co-workers.
